THE LEVELLER
Julia Durango

Nixy Bauer is a self-made Leveller. Her job? Dragging kids out of virtual reality and back to their parents in the real world. It’s normally easy cash, but Nixy’s latest mission is fraught with real danger, intrigue, and romance.
Nixy Bauer is used to her classmates being very, very unhappy to see her. After all, she’s a bounty hunter in a virtual reality gaming world. Kids in the MEEP, as they call it, play entirely with their minds, while their bodies languish in a sleeplike state on the couch. Irritated parents, looking to wrench their kids back to reality, hire Nixy to jump into the game and retrieve them.
But when the game’s billionaire developer loses track of his own son in the MEEP, Nixy is in for the biggest challenge of her bounty-hunting career. Wyn Salvador isn’t some lazy kid looking to escape his homework: Wyn does not want to be found. And he’s left behind a suicide note. Nixy takes the job but quickly discovers that Wyn’s not hiding—he’s being held inside the game against his will. But who is holding him captive, and why?
Nixy and Wyn attempt to fight their way out of a mind game unlike any they’ve encountered, and the battle brings them closer than either could have imagined. But when the whole world is virtual, how can Nixy possibly know if her feelings are real?
Gamers and action fans of all types will dive straight into the MEEP, thanks to Julia Durango’s cinematic storytelling. A touch of romance adds some heart to Nixy’s vivid, multidimensional journey through Wyn’s tricked-out virtual city, and constant twists keep readers flying through to the breathtaking end.

Breathtaking new YA SF from the author of the Faeriewalker series
Sixteen-year-old Nadia Lake comes from a high-class Executive family in the Corporate States. Her marriage has been arranged with the most powerful family in her state, which means she lives a life of privilege but also of public scrutiny, followed everywhere by photographers, every detail of her private life tabloid fodder. But her future is assured, as long as she can maintain her flawless public image — no easy feat when your betrothed is a notorious playboy.
Nathan Hayes is the heir of Paxco — controller of the former state of New York, and creator of human replication technology, science that every state and every country in the world would kill to have. Though Nadia and Nate aren’t in love, they’ve grown up close, and they (and the world) are happy enough with their match.
Until Nate turns up dead, and as far as everyone knows, Nadia was the last person to see him alive.
When the new Nate wakes up in the replication tanks, he knows he must have died, but with a memory that only reaches to his last memory backup, he doesn’t know what killed him. Together, Nadia and Nate must discover what really happened without revealing the secrets that those who run their world would kill to protect.

There is no cure for being stung.
Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she awakens, her world no longer exists. Her house is abandoned and broken. Her neighborhood is barren and dead. And there is a tattoo on her right hand. A tattoo Fiona doesn’t remember getting…but somehow she must conceal at any cost. Because humanity has been divided.
Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded, while a select few live protected inside a fortresslike wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark.
And Fiona has awoken branded, on the wrong side of the wall, and…normal.
From the author of Shifting comes this remarkable reimagining of Sleeping Beauty, where the sting of a bee, rather than the prick of a needle, can destroy the world.

4. The Cage (The Cage #1) Megan Shepherd
The Maze Runner meets Scott Westerfeld in this gripping new series about teens held captive in a human zoo by an otherworldly race. From Megan Shepherd, the acclaimed author of The Madman's Daughter trilogy. When Cora Mason wakes in a desert, she doesn't know where she is or who put her there. As she explores, she finds an impossible mix of environments—tundra next to desert, farm next to jungle, and a strangely empty town cobbled together from different cultures—all watched over by eerie black windows. And she isn't alone. Four other teenagers have also been taken: a beautiful model, a tattooed smuggler, a secretive genius, and an army brat who seems to know too much about Cora's past. None of them have a clue as to what happened, and all of them have secrets. As the unlikely group struggles for leadership, they slowly start to trust each other. But when their mysterious jailer—a handsome young guard called Cassian—appears, they realize that their captivity is more terrifying than they could ever imagine: Their captors aren't from Earth. And they have taken the five teenagers for an otherworldly zoo—where the exhibits are humans. As a forbidden attraction develops between Cora and Cassian, she realizes that her best chance of escape might be in the arms of her own jailer—though that would mean leaving the others behind. Can Cora manage to save herself and her companions? And if so . . . what world lies beyond the walls of their cage?

6. Days of Throbbing Gristle Kevin Cole
Does Heaven know you're miserable now? It’s 1987. Sam Henry Hay, a 17-year-old exchange student from Sheffield, hops into Texas, USA, with one burning ambition: Manipulate his gullible host parents into funding his university, and leave his dead-end life in Yorkshire behind. But is Sam manipulating America or America manipulating Sam? The clever lad schmoozes his way into many a bed and purse, yet can’t get rid of anyone. He executes careful plans, only to watch them disastrously fall apart. Worst of all, this once proud nihilist watches in horror as he reveals a conscience, in a world growing ever darker around him. Days of Throbbing Gristle is not your typical teenage tale. It’s a razor-slashing journey through a time and place that really was as bad as you’ve heard. For some, high school is the best time in their lives. For others, it’s a miracle they make it to the other side.

7. Percy Jackson and the Greek Heroes (Percy Jackson and the Olympians Companion Book) Rick Riordan
Who cut off Medusa's head? Who was raised by a she-bear? Who tamed Pegasus? It takes a demigod to know, and Percy Jackson can fill you in on the all the daring deeds of Perseus, Atalanta, Bellerophon, and the rest of the major Greek heroes. Told in the funny, irreverent style readers have come to expect from Percy, ( I've had some bad experiences in my time, but the heroes I'm going to tell you about were the original old school hard luck cases. They boldly screwed up where no one had screwed up before. . .) and enhanced with vibrant artwork by Caldecott Honoree John Rocco, this story collection will become the new must-have classic for Rick Riordan's legions of devoted fans--and for anyone who needs a hero. So get your flaming spear. Put on your lion skin cape. Polish your shield and make sure you've got arrows in your quiver. 8. The Kill Order (The Maze Runner #0.5) James Dashner
Before WICKED was formed, before the Glade was built, before Thomas entered the Maze, sun flares hit the earth and mankind fell to disease. Mark and Trina were there when it happened, and they survived. But surviving the sun flares was easy compared to what came next. Now a disease of rage and lunacy races across the eastern United States, and there’s something suspicious about its origin. Worse yet, it’s mutating, and all evidence suggests that it will bring humanity to its knees. Mark and Trina are convinced there’s a way to save those left living from descending into madness. And they’re determined to find it—if they can stay alive. Because in this new, devastated world, every life has a price. And to some, you’re worth more dead than alive.

9. The 100 (The Hundred #1) Kass Morgan
No one has set foot on Earth in centuries -- until now. Ever since a devastating nuclear war, humanity has lived on spaceships far above Earth's radioactive surface. Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents -- considered expendable by society -- are being sent on a dangerous mission: to recolonize the planet. It could be their second chance at life...or it could be a suicide mission. CLARKE was arrested for treason, though she's haunted by the memory of what she really did. WELLS, the chancellor's son, came to Earth for the girl he loves -- but will she ever forgive him? Reckless BELLAMY fought his way onto the transport pod to protect his sister, the other half of the only pair of siblings in the universe. And GLASS managed to escape back onto the ship, only to find that life there is just as dangerous as she feared it would be on Earth. Confronted with a savage land and haunted by secrets from their pasts, the hundred must fight to survive. They were never meant to be heroes, but they may be mankind's last hope.

10. The Games Ted Kosmatka
Jurassic Park meets The Hunger Games in this stunning new high-energy, high-concept tale from first-time novelist Ted Kosmatka, a Nebula Award and Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award finalist.
NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY PUBLISHERS WEEKLY
Set in an amoral future where genetically engineered monstrosities fight each other to the death in an Olympic event, The Games envisions a harrowing world that may arrive sooner than you think. Silas Williams is the brilliant geneticist in charge of preparing the U.S. entry into the Olympic Gladiator competition, an internationally sanctioned bloodsport with only one rule: no human DNA is permitted in the design of the entrants. Silas lives and breathes genetics; his designs have led the United States to the gold in every previous event. But the other countries are catching up. Now, desperate for an edge in the upcoming Games, Silas’s boss engages an experimental supercomputer to design the genetic code for a gladiator that cannot be beaten. The result is a highly specialized killing machine, its genome never before seen on earth. Not even Silas, with all his genius and experience, can understand the horror he had a hand in making. And no one, he fears, can anticipate the consequences of entrusting the act of creation to a computer’s cold logic. Now Silas races to understand what the computer has wrought, aided by a beautiful xenobiologist, Vidonia João. Yet as the fast-growing gladiator demonstrates preternatural strength, speed, and—most disquietingly—intelligence, Silas and Vidonia find their scientific curiosity giving way to a most unexpected emotion: sheer terror.

5. Book: Under the Dome
There's a reason why Stephen King is one of the best selling writers in the world ever. He knows how to write stories that suck you in and are impossible to put down. The New York Times describes it as a 'relentless tidal pull' and Stephen King has done it time and time again with stories like The Shawshank Redemption, Misery, The Green Mile and The Stand.
In Under the Dome, he has produced another riveting masterpiece. The end of every chapter hooks you into the next, drawing you inside a psychological drama that is so rich, you don't read it, you live it.
It is the story of the small town of Chester's Mill, Maine which is inexplicably and suddenly sealed off from the rest of the world by an invisible force field. No one can get in and no one can get out.
The normal rules of society are suddenly changed and when food, electricity and water run short, the community begins to crumble. As a new and more sinister social order develops, Dale Barbara, Iraq veteran, teams up with a handful of intrepid citizens to fight against the corruption that is sweeping through the town and to try to discover the source of the Dome before it is too late.

In Beatrice Prior's dystopian Chicago world, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue—Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is—she can't have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are—and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she's chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she's kept hidden from everyone because she's been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

11. Book: The Hunger Games
In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, "The Hunger Games," a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she is forced to represent her district in the Games. The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed.

September 1st: Twelve characters I just didn't Click With.

1. TV Show - EastEnders: Abi Branning
I just can't stand her. She whines and is really pathetic around her 'boyfriend' Ben. I am not a fan of her father Max either but Abi has to be my most hated character on EastEnders.

http://ichef.bbci.co.uk/images/ic/640xn/p02gvh4d.jpg

2. Film - The Host: Jared
I'm team Ian all the way so Jared just annoyed me, especially his attitude and inability to see the good in Wanda for most of the film.

http://www.pissedoffgeek.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/Jared-host.jpg

3. Book - The Selection: Aspen
The same reasons as above really. I am team Maxon all the way and Aspen got in the way of that so I dislike him. Well until the end anyway when he finally manages to let America go and moves on to Lucy which was adorable.

http://img08.deviantart.net/0aba/i/2014/194/d/7/aspen_and_america_from_the_selection_trilogy_by_alythefangirl-d7qh2ch.png

4. TV Show - Arrow: Laurel Lance
I can't stand her. I don't know what it is about this character but I cringe every time she comes on the screen. Maybe it is because, like Abi she is a weak character who can't stand on her own feet without a man around.

5. Film - E.T: E.T
E.T is my phobia. He is just so damn creepy. Even putting his picture here is giving me the creeps. Give me Wall-E any day.

6. Book - Watersong: Gemma
I found her really selfish, I am a massive fan of her sister Harper and Gemma's disrespect and her unappreciation of Harper just annoyed me.

7. TV Show - Doctor Who: Missy
The master can not be female. It isn't right and I prefer John Simm as the master anyway due to his crazy villain tendancies like devouraring a whole chicken, he is a little Moriarty and I like that. I just don't like the idea of a time-lord changing genders either. They change their apperence and some of their personality traits but inside after being male for so many years, it must be a little odd for them? Plus female Timelords even have different qualities to males so that puts them as seperate genders right? Females can choose how they regenerate and choose what they look like where males can't. It all gets a little confusing if they can switch genders. Moffat, don't you dare make the doctor female okay? To hell with femanist tendancies, I am female and do not mind at all that there hasn't been a female doctor as River and a whole group of strong independant companions has made up for it anyway.

8. Film - The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring: Frodo Baggins
I just watched the first film for the first time since I was about 6 or 7 and I can't belive how much Frodo annoyed me. He nearly died about twenty times and never fought in battles until everyone else had done the leg work. He is literally the weakest member of the fellowship and just lets everyone else do everything for him. I could just be a little biast though beacuse I love Bilbo's brave personality so much, but I think Bilbo is a much better protagonist. Whether he gets less annoying in later films I don't know but I guess I'll see when I watch the others.

9. Book - Fangirl: Wren
I identify with her twin Cath so much that I dislike Wren for the most of the book for being so mean to Cath. She goes behind her sister's back, doesn't look after her when she is terrified and takes the micky out of her fandom like every bully we have ever encountered. Nope, I do not like her at all.

10. TV Show - Grimm: Juliette
I admit I did like Juliette for the first three series but then, in series four, it all went horribly wrong. I don't want to include too many spoilers here but really it comes down to destroyed books and hostory to where my hate stems from the most (Those who have seen it know what I mean. That perticular event had me seething for DAYS after I watched it, I'm not even kidding about that either)

11. Film - The Hunger Games: Gale
I never really liked Gale as a Peeta fan but there was just somthing about him that I didn't like before that too. I mean, I liked him in the book (well in the first one, hate him in all the others) But there is just something I couldn't stand about Film Gale even in the first film.

12. Book - The Maze Runner: Teresa
I never liked Teresa even in the first book, but by the end my dislike was absolute hate. Team Brenda all the way!!!

I have slowed down in watching this show now. I am going to finish it sometime, but considering I loved the show so much at first I am kind of losing interest now a little at season three. Maybe it can catch my interest again sometime.

8. Film: The Lord of the Rings
I have watched these when I was younger but I was so young I really don't remember them. So I am re-watching it for what feels like the first time anyway but I have only had time for the first one so far as they are so long.

9. Book: Goddess Summoning
I love this series but the next book I have to read Goddess of Love doesn't sound as interesting as the others. I will read it at some point though.

10. TV Show: The Vampire Diaries
I have grown a little fed up of this show at three seasons in. Plus i hear Alaric dies and I love him and that can't do so I probably will not finish this series. I never finished the book series either because it became so weird. I think I may move on to The Original's instead as they are awesome and I need me some Klaus.

12. Book: Hush Hush
I'm not sure why I never finished this as I loved this series when I was abut 13, but I never did and it's been so long I can't remember the plot now. Anyone got a summary for me please?
